SHA – Social Health Authority became effective on October 1, 2024. Every Kenyan citizen, including dependents, is legally mandated to register as a member of the SHA. This is a quick guide on how existing employers should migrate to SHA, the new health insurance platform.
Required Documents to Migrate to SHA
- KRA Certificate – Ensure that you have a valid KRA PIN Certificate.
- Business Registration Certificate/ Act of Parliament – Ensure you have a valid business registration certificate / Act of Parliament.
Required Information to Migrate to SHA
- Organization Details – Organization Name, Contact Name, Contact Phone Number, Physical Address, Postal Address and KRA pin.
- Admin Details – This Admin account will create other users in the system – First Name, Last Name, Phone, and Email address
How to Migrate Employees from NHIF to SHA
- Access the Social Health Authority website.
- Register to create an account with SHA using the option ‘Activate with NHIF e-Services’.
- Enter the Employer Code/Number you have been using with the previous system (NHIF).
- Provide an E-Service Password you were using with NHIF. This prompts the portal to open.
- Enter the missing details such as the contact name.
- Upload both the Business Registration Certificate and the KRA pin.
- Provide the admin details. The admin will be able to add other users to the system if need be. Also, note that you will be logging in using the admin email that you provide.
- Once done accept the terms and conditions and click proceed.
- Access your email and use the details provided by the Social Health Authority to create a new password.
- Now access the SHA portal and log in using the email you provided and the password you have created.
How Do I Add Employees to the New Portal?
- Download the payroll Excel template from the left-side menu.
- Fill in all the required information. Note that the contribution amount is the money to be paid to the Health Insurance System.
- Once done upload the file and proceed to submission.
- You can now make payments either by Mpesa or by bank.
