This is a detailed guide on how to apply for a Tax Compliance Certificate. Tax compliance is, in other words, a Tax Clearance Certificate. This is an official document issued by Kenya Revenue Authority confirming that an individual, a cooperation or a company has paid all due taxes.

Detailed Guide on How to Apply for TCC
Note that the application for a TCC is done through the iTax platform and the certificate is sent to the applicant’s email address. You can also download it immediately after applying on the portal.
Before applying, make sure you have your KRA pin with you. If you have never applied you should start by applying for a KRA pin. Update your KRA pin in the iTax portal if you have never done so.
1. Access the iTax platform.
2. Enter your KRA pin and password to log in. Reset your KRA Pin password if you are having trouble logging in.
3. After logging in, locate the option for certificates on the right-hand side and hover the mouse over it.
4. From the drop-down list that appears, click on the link “Apply for Tax Compliance Certificate.”

5. Wait for the message that will appear. If you have pending returns, you will have a popup message like this. “Please note that you cannot apply for TCC as you have pending returns/returns to be filed. Please click ‘OK’ to view the details of pending returns.”
6. If there are no pending returns, a page opens where you select the reason why you want to apply for a Tax Compliance Certificate.
7. Click on submit to send your request.
8. The tax compliance certificate is generated on the portal and sent to your email.
How to Print Tax Compliance Certificate from iTax Portal
- Log into the iTax platform
- Locate the certificates option on the top right-hand side.
- Hover the mouse pointer to open the drop-down menu.
- Click on the ‘consult and reprint TCC’ option.
- You will find a list of the tax compliances you have been issued with. Click on the certificate serial number to download and print the certificate.
Rejected Tax Compliance Certificate
If your TCC application has hit the wall, you need to know what is required of you. Since the reason for rejection is provided, what you are left with is to pay or file any missing returns. Make the necessary amendments and then reapply.
